The Gorillaz creators have collaborated to bring the production to life at the Manchester International Festival next year. Albarn has written the musical score and Hewlett designed the settings for "Monkey: Journey To The West", which will be debuted on June 28, 2007. Apparently the show will feature acrobats, martial arts performers and singers in a new interpretation of the Chinese literary classic, reports the NME. The production has been written and directed by theatre director Chen Shi-Zheng and is co-produced by Manchester International Festival, Théâtre du Châtelet Paris and Berlin-native Staatsoper den Linden.
