Hi all, I've got a question that I've been mulling over for some time now and that is "How comes Hewlett's art doesn't get the same kind of recognition as that of Banksy, Micallef, Walker etc.' I think this as he has helped create the first fully animated band, which has been very successful and would have reached a very large world-wide audience. By 'Recognition' i mean that when ever I search thru e-bay for any print that I cannot normally afford (Banksy's + Micallef's going for £800+), I virtually never stumble across any of Hewlett's work. This could mean that people who purchase his work are doing so because they actually like it unlike some other artists! What also fuel's this thought of mine is that I was debating for some time whether or not to buy a full set of 'stained glass windows'. I did in the end purchase a full set of signed ones before Christmas - which are quality , but these have been for sale on POW for ages and ages....why? Do people think that 2007 could see Hewlett work take-off like some of the others..?

I agree it is a shame. But then lots of people will just dismiss Jamie's work as only being a 'cartoon band' (I hate that phrase). Also he is overshadowed in Gorillaz a lot by Damon.
I think 2007 will see him take off - he is doing the artwork and design for "Monkey" - a musical opera we're having up in Manchester this summer, looks really appealing and fun. It's bound to get him a lot more coverage in the press and recognition, I think.

I also agree that it is a shame, but I think to a lot of people like his work that is none Gorillaz related big sponge finger & kid to name two. I have more comments about my copy of BSF than my Noodle and stained glass set. when people see the noodle I get oh is that the cartoon girl from that band!!! they like the SG, but I think because it has such an impact but still say it's the cartoon band! I like all his work but it would be nice to see less Gorillaz stuff this year.
